We had the opportunity to participate in the Oakcliff Halloween regatta. On the practice day, we saw sustained winds of twenty-five knots and about four foot seas. It was a spectacular day of sailing. Late in the day, we had the opportunity to do a few pre-start practices with the Coast Guard Academy team that was sailing in the event.
The first day of sailing we had moderate breeze. We had a great first few races but then things went a little south when we were racing a team from Canada. In the pre-start we were able to secure a penalty on the other boat then went the first few legs with no incident. On the last leg of the race, the leading boat still needed to kill his penalty. We had a rather intense downwind that cumulated into a crash one quarter boat length from the finish. After this we took some time to reorganize ourselves and we moved forward. The next day we were only able to accomplish one race due to light winds.
As always, we would like to thank the regatta organizers and all volunteers for hosting a great event.
