USMRC Qualifier Detroit

Saturday started with little breeze and postponement. After about an hour breeze filled in and two round robins were completed. The 2.5 knot current set took a little getting used to but staying high in the box at starts and being conservative with lay lines helped with that.

Sunday came with higher wind, dying throughout the day. Again, two round robins were completed, totaling 4 for the event. Our team came into stride more on Sunday, after learning the boats and the local conditions. There were a few very close races that were decided at the last minute which made the day very exciting. In the end red star got 3rd out of 5 boats. The bay view yacht club awarded us with a burgee for traveling so far to do the event! We want to thank the bay view yacht club and the Detwiler family for their hospitality. We can’t wait to come back for the event next year!
