Charlie Welsh

Team Manager/Skipper​​​

Newport Beach, CA

Charlie grew up racing Lasers, Fjs and 29ers in Southern California. He began sailing keelboats at a young age and has loved it ever since. He brings a variety of different skills both on and off the water.  Most importantly, Charlie believes in promoting sailing for everyone. 

Tom Hickey

Team Manager/Skipper​​​

Weymouth, MA

Tom currently attends Webb Institute, majoring in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and is the keelboat team captain. Tom specializes as a helmsman, strategist, and tactician. He brings the skills he has learned as a longtime coach, team manager, and engineer to the water with high level communication, crew management, and quick problem-solving skills.

Alex Brock Kraebel

Mid-Bowman/Naval Designer

Long Island, NY

Alex earned a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Southern California where he competed on the USC Varsity Sailing Team. Since graduating, Alex has been deeply immersed in the marine industry and has developed a robust education for every aspect of boat maintenance. He has a real passion for the classics from his time at Wooden Boatworks in Greenport, Long Island. 

Sam Wright


Annapolis, Marlyand

As a marylander, The Chesapeake Bay is where is Sam learned to sail.  Unlike most kids, Sam was exposed to keelboats early on. Sam developed a passion for racing on a J27 sailing out of Annapolis. As Sam continues to hone his skills he is reminded and proud of his past accomplishments.

Donal Ryan

Main Sail Trimmer

Stamford, Conneticut

Donal Ryan is a 20 year old sailor from Stamford Connecticut. He currently sails for the Northeastern University Sailing Team. He has raced on J/105s, Farr 30s, and Swedish Match 40s.  

Robert Garrett


Newport Beach, CA

Robert was born into the sport and started racing at a young age in Sabots and later progressed into CFJs and Lasers to where he is now: primarily focusing on the J70 class and Match Racing. He is a California resident currently studying abroad in New Zealand.

John Horton

Head Sail Trimmer

Newport Beach, CA

Starting off his sailing career in Sabots, John transitioned to compete in the laser and 29er classes. He also sailed on the CDM high school team.

Dan Roberts

Sail Maker/Trimmer

San Francisco, CA

Dan grew up sailing skiffs and multihulls in San Francisco Bay and has spent the last 10 years working in the sailing industry.  Currently, he is working for Quantum sails after spending 3 years traveling with Marstrom 32 fleet. Dan is an incredible addition to the team and we are lucky to have him on board. 

Rex Cameron


San Diego,  CA

Rex Cameron is a naturally gifted sailor from San Diego who can stay positive and adapt to any given conditions. Rex excels under immense amounts of pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.

Michael Saborin


Newport Beach, CA

Michael didn't fully get involved with sailing until his early teens. But once he did, he was hooked on it. Michael has campaigned many different types of boats all across the world. When he is not sailing, he attends Boston University and studies Engineering. 

Sam Tobio

Head Sail Trimmer

Sarasota, FL

Sam is a small-boat, catamaran, and keelboat sailor from Sarasota, Florida. Sam has been sailing competitively since 2009 and has since entered the world of high-performance dinghies, sport boats, match racing, and large keelboats. Sam is using Oakcliff as a platform to improve his sailing skills and further himself as an athlete in the sport. Sam plans to sail in college and study business and then move onto professional sailing or work as an operations/logistics manager for a sailing syndicate. 

Jeffery Peterson


Newport Beach, CA

Jeffrey grew up Sailing Sabots in Newport Beach CA. He has sailed on a variety of boats from high-performance dinghies to 100-foot maxi yachts and everything in between. He is an Eagle Scout and a versatile sailor who looks to grow in his skills in the years to come.

Ally Schwerdtfeger

Long Island, New York

Ally grew up sailing and coaching Optimist Racing on the North Shore of Long Island. A senior in college, she races at Bentley University, primarily in FJs and 420s. As her last season at Bentley approaches, Ally looks forward to the next chapter in her sailing career with the team.

Kate Shaner

Head Sail Trimmer

Seattle, Washington

Kate is an American athlete currently training for the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 49er FX. She grew up racing Optimists and 29ers in the Pacific Northwest. Kate graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in 2016. She currently spends over 300 days a year on the water training and racing on the international FX circuit. When not sailing, she works for the LA Metro as they transition to an emissions free bus system.

Lily Lichtenstein


Mount Desert Island, Maine

Lily grew up sailing in Northeast Harbor, ME, she has sailed a range of classes of boats from dinghies to IODs to j70s and Rhodes 19s.
